The law course in three steps…

Step 1

Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honours – 4-year course aimed at understanding the core legal areas.

Step 2

Masters Degree – 1-year course in notarial or advocacy studies.

Step 3

Professional Warrant – 1 year of practice for becoming a notary or lawyer before sitting for the final warrant exam.

ECTS credits are a numerical value (between 1 and 60) allocated to course units to describe the student workload required to complete them. A total of 60 credits are assigned to the study-units that students are expected to complete over one full-time academic year.

Therefore, as per the information provided on the left, you will be required to complete the following ECTS in the law course:

Step 1 – Bachelor of Law with Honours (4 years)

Year 1 – 60 ECTS
Year 2 – 60 ECTS
Year 3 – 60 ECTS
Year 4 – 60 ECTS
Total – 240 ECTS

Step 2 – Masters in Notarial or Advocacy Studies (1 year)

Year 1 – 90 ECTS of which 60 ECTS are from taught study-units and the other 30 ECTS from professional practise. [/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Assessment Marking System” icon=”hb-moon-plus-circle”][vc_column_text]A student’s performance in the assessment of study units is expressed both as a percentage mark and as a grade, which are recorded in the student’s academic records and can be viewed on esims. The percentage mark shall be used for the purpose of calculating the student’s progress and for the award classification.

A+ – 95% – 100%
A – 80% – 90%
B+ – 75% – 79%
B – 70% – 74%
C+ – 65% – 69%
C – 55% – 64%
D+ – 50% – 54%
D – 45% – 49%
F or CP** – 35% – 44%
F – 0% – 34%

**Compensated Pass – applicable only for compensatable study units. – Performance is deemed to be just below marginal pass but compensatable by good performance in other units.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Classification” icon=”hb-moon-plus-circle”][vc_column_text]To calculate the average mark for each year of the Course, each individual mark obtained for each unit registered for during the year shall be weighted by the credit value of the corresponding unit, the resultant marks are added and divided by the total number of credits to give the Year Average Mark.

The Final Weighted Average Mark for the classification of the Honours Degree and Degree shall be based on the Year Average Mark of all years of the course, all years being weighted equally.

Bachelor Degrees (LL.B / LL.B + LP) may be awarded in any of the following categories:

Category I (Summa Cum Laude)
Category IIA (Magna Cum Laude)
Category IIB (Cum Laude)
Category III (Bene Probatus)

Bachelor Honours Degrees (LL.B Hons) may be awarded in any of the following classes:

First Class Honours (Summa Cum Laude)
Second Class Honours (Upper Division) (Magna Cum Laude)
Second Class Honours (Lower Division) (Cum Laude)
Third Class Honours (Bene Probatus)
